Hey Jawz, whay year is it? I bought a '73 13 ft whaler about 5 yrs ago and did something similar. It had been a work boat in a marina in north jersey somewhere. We painted it and stripped down the wood and revarnished it, and put a new 25 Yamaha on it. We use it in the lagoons and to run around the bay. Nice work. Did you add texture to the deck surface? Looks like you had it taped off to do that.

We fixed up an 87 13ft Super Sport a few years back.

The only thing we didn't do was get the boat painted. If I knew you could get the boat to look that good I defiantly would have taken the boat down to you.

Great Job!

the deck, and the upper sections-these areas were non skid from the factory,i sand the old diamond pattern out, these areas are rolled in the awlgrip, then sprinkled in "grip tex",then rolled again and then one more time...it gives a fine pebble like non skid finish.it's super easy to clean too.
awlgrip or imron are the only paints i use, these seem to hold up the best.
amazing what a little face lift does !!

Looks great.

I would love to grind off all the diamond non-skid and go that route. The diamond pattern is very deep, hollow in the center and a real PIA to keep clean...maybe someday if I don't get a bigger rig in the next year or two.

Jim,

On another semi related subject... Does your Bert have glass or Nautolex decks? I'm looking at stripping the Nautolex off the deck of the Lancer to replace it (after 40 years its getting a little weary!) and was wondering if there was any other way than a heat gun and scraping it off 4 sq inches at a time.

thanks bob,you reminded me of all the "fun" i had when i repalced the deck of the bertram...i used the same nautilex on it again,i liked the look...it was a miserible job peeling the old stuff off,i needed a clean surface to make a template from...

The Lancer has a Nautolex pattern that is not available these days. The current "blue pebble" pattern is closest. I saw a picture of a Lancer that got restored up in CT but had the decks done with the "white plank" pattern, which I believe was the standard "Bert" pattern back in the day. Thinking of redoing as "white plank" instead of blue pebble.

Your "fun" comment was what I was afraid of... sigh... A job for the fall. Boat already delayed too long for launch. Wife getting itchy to go fishing...Yes, I am a VERY lucky guy :-)
