The First Annual Barnegat Fishin' Hole Fall Striper Tournament was a huge success. Thirty four boats were entered in the inaugural tournament with 120 anglers fishing the event. Eighteen boats came to the scales to weigh in thirty six striped bass and sixteen bluefish.

Each boat received great door prizes and give-aways at the Captains' Meeting and Awards Ceremony from our sponsors: Fin Strike, Fish Bonz Bait & Tackle, Gamakatsu, GarbageFish.com, Lacey Marine, Lunker City, Mann's Bait Company, Play it Again Sports, Ribber City Sauce Company, Sea\\Tow Central NJ, Shore Point Embroidery & Promotions, Sun Harbor Bay Club and Tournament Grade Tackle.

Thank you to Mark Taylor, President of the Jersey Coast Angler's Association, for being our guest speaker at the Captains' Meeting and answering questions at both the Captains' Meeting and Awards Ceremony about fisheries management, current legislation and ongoing affairs concerning the recreational anglers of NJ.

Prizes were awarded to the top five places for the combined weight of two striped bass, the results are below:

Place Member Name Bass Total Bluefish
1 buldoggg69 47.6 7.9
2 fgriffin 31.4 9.2
3 evil one 30.2 -
4 foogazzi02 30.1 7.2
5 loanfish 29.8 12.4

A complete list of fish entered in the tournament is available here

This event would not have been possible without the help from all of our sponsors, volunteers and members that participated in the First Annual Barnegat Fishin' Hole Fall Striped Bass Tournament contributing to its first year success. With all of your help we raised $400 that will be donated to the Lacey Food Bank in our founder's name, Larry 'DewJigger' Eckenrode.

That's great Joe. Wish I was off Saturday to fish it. Congrats to the winners!

He (Mark Taylor) talked about the recent changes to weakfish and winter flounder and how Tom Fote fought to even get the 1 and 2 fish bag limits when the councils wanted total moratoriums, the recent press release from ASMFC that striped bass are not being overfished and overfishing is not occurring and that the commercial quota rollover was not approved.

He also spoke briefly about how anglers can help the cause by joining local clubs and getting more involved by going to meetings of the local clubs and to the public hearings by the various fishing councils.

He also said that if anyone has any questions about fisheries management, current legislation and like topics that they can check on the Jersey Coast Anglers Association website and or call or e-mail him or their office manager Sharon McKenna, e-mail addresses and phone numbers can be found on the Jersey Coast Anglers Association web site, www.jcaa.org.
