Description
I've gone fluking a few trips this season, mostly striper hunting util now. I downsized my fluke line to 15lb mono and 15lb floro leader based on comments on this site. Uni to uni for the line to leader connection. So far I'm skunking. Is there something wrong with this rig? I bounce it fast, slow, short and long lifts. Tip with either killie / squid or gulp. Seeking input. Picture posted in the photo section. Thanks.

your rig is fine..I use the same and do real good sometimes and skunk the next..try different colors ..maybe a white teaser and ..and go with as light weight as possible..outgoing tide if in the bay..and you should have some luck.

Nothing wrong with your setup. I use the same rig but with soft plastics on a bare hook as the teaser. If you don't find fish in a few drifts move a bit or to a different area. Been doing better on the incoming. Cooler and cleaner water especially after all the crap washed into the bay with all the rain this last week which makes for a dirty outgoing. Fish don't like dirty water . Use lightest bucktail you can get away with and keep that bucktail bouncing at all times!!!

I also answer your other post. If i use a spro I don't use second hook just drop and jig. For a hi low i have the store bought with longer leaders and a three way where the spro and a short dropper sinker.

I use 2 chartruese spros tipped with chartruese gulp and killie. Heavier spro on the bottom lighter on top. So far so good. Last year I did the same rig just using gulp. So far haven't seen a great improvement over last year with the added killie. Although I did boat a 6.5lbr with spro/gulp/killie combo.

I agree with using braid for hook setting, better feel, etc. However, I do not like the high/low (teaster) in the manner that it is being discussed here.

I make various rigs and I prefer the following...
plastic squid skirt, squid strip and then either a gulp swimming minnow or a spearing. If there is a good drift, I put a spinner blade in front of the squid strip.

Rather than put a teaser in front of that, I will actually tie mono to the hook and drop another piece of squid roughly 12 inches behind.

Nothing wrong with that rig. I use a tap dancer rig, hardly use anything else fluking. I usually use a very fast and short movement on the jig, 6-10 times and then let it rest a couple of seconds and then repeat. I will use either spearing on both hooks, squid heads, whole small squid or the Gulp belly strips. Haven't tried the Uncle Josh Meat yet but will when we start fluking this year.

I'm new too and finally catching some fluke, just like these guys taught me. Other thing that has been great for me is spearing.

Does anyone have a idea on how to keep those darn spearing on the hook?

Dave

Don't put too many on the hook, they can't be bunched up and need to not spin. Depending on the size of the hook anywhere from one to three baits. I always go through the eyes. Other than that never had a problem except for the panasea vacuum packed silversides which were very mushy. But that year that was about the only thing available.
