When trolling spoons and such, you can't see the rod action because of using downriggers. How do you judge speed you should run in that scenario?

I always run them at 3 - 4 knots. It varies heading into wind or not.

Run a spoon on wire and write down the RPMs you are running at.

I dont get the downrigger part, but I hope it works.

Hi Glen check out Tonys web site he has a system that work specifically for down riggers, I had the privilege to fish with him personally and he has done an amazing job at creating this system. Its a bungee with a release clip on it that attaches right to the down rigger ball all you have to do is watch the rods in the out-rodder and the down rigger system follows the same action.Their is not set speed just watch the rods to get that pumping action.

Hey Treysdad what size rods are you using with your down rigger setup? I plan on trolling with down riggers next season.

By the way if like you boat ;-)
