My boss's gauge for his 150 Yamaha 2 stroke

I'm not familiar with OB's. But my best guess would be a bad oil pressure and/or level sensor...?

I've owned Yamaha outboards for almost 20 years and never had a sensor go bad. I suspect the on board oil tank is not delivering enough oil to the engine mounted tank. There is typically a small filter inside the on board oil tank, they are prone to getting clogged.

On another note, why is the outboard at 5300 rpm if he's worried about oil levels and overheating?

I have that gauge and agree with Scott. Assuming that is not the actual gauge in the pic, prob not getting oil and overheating. May want to check the oil reservoir and line as well.

Are the audible alarms going off? Easy to test the oil level sensor, there is a tank on the motor for the oil, take the cap off and move the float up and down with the switch on.

Also, what year is the motor, a few years the pump on the reserve tank wouldn't run if the tilt sensor was reading that the motor is up, so if that plastic tilt sensor breaks, no pumpy. Ask me how I know...

And in that pic it looks like the motor is tilted

Is this picture with the boat underway, or is the gauge freaking out like that while the boat is at rest?

The picture is a generic shot from the web for ID...the oil bars are not displayed at all and the temp bar flashes...this is at all times...not intermittent

Its a 2005 Striper...

Thanks everyone! Boss man is joining Barnegat Fishin' Hole site soon...

I have a 2003 150. Bought it used in 2007. Gauge was acting up. After talking to a Yamaha tech found out the harness was disconnected under the hood. How it got that way who knows. Might want to start with the simple issues first. Are the alarms going off?

Last year, mine was acting crazy and it turned out that there was dust between the ground wire and the block. The engine was clean as a whistle, but I took the ground wire off, gave the terminal and block some work with a brush, and then when I reconnected everything, the engine and gauge went back to normal. Might be worth trying. Dust wasn't visible, but brushing cleared the issue.
