This boat was only purchased a month ago by one of my buds who had an old Trojan that loved spending his money. After he picked this Wellcraft up, he sold the money pit, and POW!, a month later lightning struck it at 5pm yesterday - he never used it...the FD gave the 'All clear' and told the owners that "No one is to touch the boat until further notice". Well...it re-ignited at 4am and burnt to the water line...then sank!!! Now the marina has oil all over it...great idea leaving it in the slip!

Today I brought my Judy, (Mrs. boat owner), a 2 liter jug of Big Paulie's Special Sangria to help her with her 'Pain Management'.

I heard that in Florida this type of thing happens a lot more often...

And jak...the boat IS your shrink - you tell it your problems, you dish out a lot of money for it, and you always come back to it for more!!! smile

Wow ,talk about freaky.
First your boat gets hit, then you think it survived minus whatever damage was done by the lightning only to have it burn and sink hours later. That really sucks !!!!

Barry...it was totaled with the strike.

I just don't get why it was left in the slip...? F'n be-wilders the be-jesus outta me...?!?!? That fire could have spread through-out the entire marina...unless that was the plan???!!!

I know the could haves and should haves don't mean very much - until they actually happen!

That does seem strange. We have seen in the past whether it was a fire at the marina or one just on the water that once it was put out and the FD said it was out, they pulled the boat and blocked it well away from a building or other boats. They usually want it out of the water as soon as possible.

Just looking and wondering if that is the shore power cable still plugged into the boat in the burned out picture.

Yes it was! Me? I never leave the shore power plugged in just in case crap like this happens. I've been around Mr. Electricity long enuf to know better. My bud (same guy) used to leave his old boat plugged into the shore power and leave the battery charger on most times...even after I told him that was a big no-no!
