Jim i have a question . The marina i go to in waretown says that i need a new gimbal bearing that it is loose. OK but he say that once the gimbal bearing is loose the shaft also needs to be replaced,and wants to also reinforce the hull with extra fiberglass. Now i pulled on shook the shaft a didn't notice any significant play.Now is this true or am i just getting shafted.

Jaws sorry for the miss information,i'm by no means am i a marine mechanic.It was not the gimbal bearing but the cutlass bearing.The marina said once the cutlass goes bad the shaft must be replaced also,as i said i shook it up and down and side to side and didn't fell much play.The reason for the fiberglass was to reinforce the strut.The shaft seamed straight and did not flex.I don't feel any vibration while under power.I know it's hard you to diagnose the problem without seeing it, but any feedback would be helpful.
