How many time were you out flukeing with some friends on a slow day. And all of the sudden someone's pole bends hard and your friend says Man this is a big fluke ... and ol mr green eyes come up barking . I always get a laugh when that happens.

My wife is not a fisher person per say and she enjoys anything she gets inc A fat sea robin.

I got an email from a group of fishermen out in Alaska who are organizing a garbage fish tourny. Apparently they have 11 different species of skate that they get, spiny dogfish, and something called a Sculpin which is a cousin to our sea robin. Take a look at this huge bird.

We get sculpins here in NJ. I think most of them are mistaken for sea robins. Most of the ones I have seen were in the bellies of striped bass actually and on the smaller size...6-10". The sculpins we see in our waters look a little different from the Alaskin counterpart but for the most part the body geometry is very similar...I have not seen one that big in our waters yet but I guess it is possible.

On my boat, we frequently compete for the "trash fish trifecta" .....at least 1 skate, 1 sea robin, 1 doggie or sandy each.

I must say I have been waiting for a thread about garbage fish. I have spent so many summers catching tons of sea robins. I enjoy catching them, me and my good buddies would head down to the casino fishing pier in seaside always hoping for some bluefish or a striper, but sea robins were always the way to go. A ton of fun, and a great way to fix a boring trip!

Veteran Flukers hate'em, but if you're taking out a kid who doesn't get to fish much they think Sea Robins and "lil sharks" are the coolest things!

I even know some folks that eat them.

I have seen smooth and spineys cleaned immediatly and consumed on many fluking and wreck trips in the past on various head boats. Just like opinions and chairs....there is someone to eat any animal, fish, insect, bird, etc.
