T'was the night before christmas and on the back of the boat, a crack head snuck on and stole all the ropes.
He was hoping to sell them for a hit off the rock
and dreamed of watching Springer as he sprang from the dock.
This time last year, the captain would have been
checking his craft, alleviating the problem of druggies
sneaking on aft.
But according to the figures of the those making the rules, all the fish are endangered so fishing ain't cool.
So feel free to set out, wet a line, and go nuts,
but if you bring home a fish you'll be fined big fat bucks.
There is, however, some fish still unmanaged - because
they're considered to be trash, just garbage fish that
cause damage.
But we here at garbagefish advise that you try them,
because they're quite tasty, even more if you fry them.
And for now, you see, there are no regs. in place -
so go catch a fat dogfish from the beach and make haste.
Bring it home and smoke it - maybe wrap it in bacon
serve it to your guests and they won't be mistaken -
when they tell their friends they ate garbage for dinner
- just look their bellies - it's clear they're no thinner.
And what good did come of this surprise bounty this
year - sweet tasty fresh fish to serve with cheap beer.
Plus that extra time on the boat checking the lines -
rigging for fishing and thwarting drug crimes.
So let them levy regulations on fluke and on sea bass
while for christmas dinner we eat stuff that most call trash.
...and if they lower our bag limits again on sweet fluke,
we'll fish 9 foot seas for skate til we puke.
And while all is but a memory of your lines going tight,
We say merry christmas from garbage fish and to all a good night.
