The forecast wasn't good for Saturday if you planned on fishing off the beach. My charter did not like NOAA's forecast for gusts up to 30 Knots, so when they rescheduled, I put together a last minute trip.
Mike, Ed, Angelo, Sam, and Joe decided to go and we headed out around 6:30am. My first stop was in 50 feet and it was nothing but shorts. We stayed there for about 45 minutes, then decided to head out to 85 feet where we were catching keepers last week.
Set up around 8:30 on a small piece on GSN and had good steady action. Today it was all on white leggers and the big tog where biting. After a couple of shorts came up, I set the hook on a good fish. After a quick fight, Ed slipped the net under our first keeper, a 9 pounder.
It was a good mix of shorts and keepers until about 11:15 when a real strong current out of the south came on and it completely shut down the bite. After that, we only had a few shorts and one more keeper.
We only ended the day with 16 keepers, but the quality of today's fish more than made up for it. We had a 10, 9, 8, and a bunch of others in the 5-7 pound range. Can't wait to get back out there.
