The fluke-biting-at-night thing brings up an interesting question: How come we never hear of anyone targeting fluke at night? I always thought it was because they shut down in low-light conditions, but Scott pretty much just trashed that theory.

Is it because no one really bothers going at night due to the numbers that are available during the day?

One fluke doesn't necessarily "trash" a theory. If you put a bait in front of its face then it's bound to hit it. Fluke are highly dependent on eyesight in order to target prey and are always "looking" around for prey to ambush. That is one of the main reasons why a bucktail that has a lot more movement to it, is more effective than dragging a piece of dead bait along the bottom.

Nice job on the weakies Scott!

Thanks guys it's been a few years since I've had weakfish action. Was nice to find some again.
I agree Joey. I've had friends go try the north reef all night and not catch anything. Fluke rely on eyesight to find their food and then either react or go smell it before reacting. my jig just happened to bounce near this one fluke and attract his attention to entice him in. At the time we were anchored too which made it even more surprising.

We did both..drifted and anchored. When we were anchored we had clam chum out. Unfortunately It attracted a a handful of dogfish before anything else showed up

I've always heard the same thing about Fluke and it seemed to make sense, but on another site there are a bunch of guys in NY who seem to do well at night fishing from shore, bridges and piers.
