Red Bird rail cars - 07/17/07 11:07 AM
I had a conversation with Hugh Carberry, director of the artifical reef program for the state of nj in regards to the aquisition of the New York surplus rail cars.
Although there is still nothing written in stone; plans are moving forward for distributation of 600 of the available 1600 cars to the state. Reef sites have been determined and everything should be in place for quick deployment when cars are available. These cars differ from the last one because they are made of stainless steel. There is a life expectancy of 30 to 50 years. They should provide years of productivity.
Meetings are being planed with MFCM, general public, and other interested parties.
Hugh was very optimistic about this program and feels it will come to be without to much decent. Lets keep our fingers crossed.
