How much does a reef ball cost?

Does anyone know?

I think Larry may have that information. They are more expensive than you may think. Reef balls are usually deployed in groups. Are you asking what does a single one cost? If Larry dosen't have the figure I'll check with DEP and try to get a number for you.

My guess is the cost to deploy the reef ball is far more expensive than the cost to manufacture it.

You are probably correct. I was just curious, being that we have over 1000 members and if we campaign a little, we may be able to get one sooner rather than later.

Your right on about deployment. That is the major cost. That is also why they deploy in groups.

Our first reef donation got a reef ball. It's located on Garden State South Reef at Approximately 39 33.70 074 06.70.
Position should be exact in the "Fishing and Diving New Jersey Reefs" booklet, Third Edition, when it comes out. I haven't seen it yet.
It cost BFH $500.

BTW, BFH Reef #2 and #3 are on Barnegat Light Reef. Each is a cluster of 3 tanks. #2 is at 39 45.1 074 01.7 and #3 is at
39 44.75 074 01.7
Also to be listed in the 3rd Edition.
The Plaque for #1 is in the Office at Sun Harbor Bay Club, #2 is in FishBonz and I still have #3.

Do you mean sponsor? If so I believe sponsoring a reef ball is $500. I can double check if your interested.

Unfortunately I witnessed an eternal reef burial and I know that there are different sizes etc. I guess my question is to Larry.
When does the site have enough money for a reef ball, what is the bottom line cost, is it $500. My thinking is that we should have enough support on the site with over a 1000 member to ask for a donation outside of the tournaments and other fund raising activities. This would ensure that we continously have a flow of funds for the reef fund. I'm not sure what that message is but I think a $5 donation from everyone on the site is not out of question. Just my thoughts, please don't take my questions the wrong way, I'm just trying to figure out a way to raise more money.

BFH has raised over $3,000 in the past for BFH Reefs #1, #2 and #3. Currently, there is $2,685 in the reef fund. Watch the dollar amount under the Reef Balls on the Portal page. As donations come in the amount is updated.
Donations are always welcomed. And they come in from many different sources, out-right donations, guys have kicked back some of the tournament winnings, there are 50/50s at any get-together, A portion of tournament entry fees, T-Shirt Sales, Burgee Sales and in the past sticker sales have all gone toward the NJ Reef Fund. The money accumulates here until we have enough to do something decent.
Our next donation will sponsor something and be dedicated to the memory of Carol Evans, Jeff's (C-Witch) Mother.
I'm hoping that will be a subway car on Barnegat Light Reef.
But $2,685 probably won't do it.
So, if anyone wants to help the Reef fund, look at the Portal Page, Click on "Make a Donation" or T-Shirt Sale. I also have about a dozen Burgees left over also.

The cost of a "REEF SITE" now is $1500.00..
You can send the money to LARRY and I think he will keep it until he has enough to deploy a set.
The problem I had was I could not get the REEF BALLS deployed where I wanted. I have deployed a reef for a Brother and wanted the other Brother next to the first.
If you just want to donate to have the reefs expanded your money may go to Tanks, Bridge rubble, Dredge rock Mountains, Clean and sink boats of many kinds.
Boats are getting scarce because the price of scrap metal has hit gone up too much.

The people can be more involved with the process.
You can have the ashes put into the mix before the ball is cast. You can have your hand prints in-bedded into the balls.
You can be on a boat when the balls are deployed.
The balls are made in Sarasota Fla.
They are deployed at several locations. Next year from Fla. to Ocean City NJ...
