here's a 246,it had a serious problem,the hull was broken in the forward area-it was broken through,due to the fact the hull was allowed to flex,the stringers were detached from the hull.the hull thickness is that great in these areas,the glass just broke.












this is the damage that's visible on the outside of the hull-look close in the pictures,you will see the cracks extend beyond...

upon further inspection,it was discovered the stringers were detached from the hull,the bulkheads were also detached from the hull.it appeared the bulkheads were cut too short ? the stringers and the bulkheads were tied into the hull using a chopped strand matt-3/4oz is what it looked like...i had to cut more of the cabin deck out to repair...









pretty nasty huh ?

here's the entire cabin deck cut out to repair the stringers and the bulkheads.the stringers were detached to almost the engine area...

all these areas were ground out-this is the only way to repair glass damage,grind the damaged areas away and rebuild,using matting and resin-remember,filler has no strength...

these are some of the areas on the outside of the hull ground out and ready to be rebuilt...

this was found lying in the forward bilge area after i cut it all out,it's a piece of nida core,kcs used nida core for a bulkhead material...




this is where the damage ended...







here's exactly how thick the hull is...most people are under the belief their boat's hull is much thicker than it really is...i laugh when i hear guys tell others "my hull is over 1 inch thick,solid glass",not true unless you own an ocean master hull...

everything was put back together,i replaced the bulheads,i reatached the stringers and matted them to the hull using alternating layers of 24oz woven cloth and 1.5oz chopped strand,the "gap" was filled with west system epoxy mixed with 403 additive,then matted over...the stringers will never seperate,the repair is stronger than the rest of the hull's construction...

that was the first big repair i ever did on a shamrock.those boats are built pretty well,allways been a big fan of the single inboard power...
