I've built a few boats, pilothouses, etc. myself and am always looking for tips, tricks, and just plain good sound knowledge. You can't learn too much. Thanks for your time and knowledge.

Re: gimme your opinion... - 12/21/08 09:23 AM

thanks for the comments guys.i just wanted to hear what you guys thought.i know, just from the geographical location of my shop,i will get little if any buisness from this site.the idea here is providing information, good usefull information.i see way too much bad advice and information given on forums like these, some of the stuff i read really scares me.example, repairing a leaking fuel tank,by fiberglassing it-i'm not kidding,i read this...
there's no one that knows everything,i know for a fact,i don't know everything, nor will i ever, but,if anything i've posted so far has helped one of you guys, you got the whole idea of this...make sense idea?

Jimmy- I am enjoying reading your posts. It's obvious that you are pretty passionate about your work. I think that's why some guys (including myself) have read your past posts the wrong way. Sorry for the short judgement, and thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Are you a Yamaha tech? Although I am a solid hour and a half away, my boat is on the trailer all of the time. I fish Cape May in the spring for stipers and drum. Bringing it in for service would not be a problem for me. It's an '08 Scout with an F250 yammie.

I'm looking to get out this weekend for one last trip. Would you recommend fogging (or your way of fogging) if I will be back in the water around March 1st? I have never fogged any of my other boats, but they were all 2-strokes. Never had a problem not doing it (they never sat for more than 90 days either). Thanks again -Eric

Re: gimme your opinion... - 01/01/09 11:07 AM

personally,i would fog the engine,i use the way i described-this will also clean the injectors, hard to believe huh idea?
reason behind fogging is,the engine=powerhead,is inside a cowling,it heats up and cools down in there-condensation all over, same thing happens inside the engine...
if you're in cape may, swing on by,i'm just off the parkway...you can drop the boat off when you're done with it and have it back next time you're heading down to fish...

Re: gimme your opinion... - 01/01/09 03:49 PM

Thanks Jim. I will be out this weekend for my last trip. I will clean the boat up and get her ready for bed. Do you shrink wrap too?

Great explanation of the condensation. My other boat that has never been fogged is a carburated 2 stroke 115/80 Yamaha jet drive. Changed the plugs, cleaned the carbs once and replaced two impellers in eight years. Still starts and runs like day one. I love that motor! I don't think I'll change her pill, but I'll take the recommended course for the new boat. Thanks again- Eric

My opinion huh? ok you asked lol.
I think its cool you will tell people your "trade secrets" I do the same with cars or what ever I can.
Trouble with computers is you can take whats said 1000 differant ways, I have that problem sometimes when I post and reread what I wrote. People sometimes don't get what your saying or how you say it, -- thats what I think your saying with the "polished writer" know what I mean?? ( see I have to ask grin )

Exactly my thoughts, not that I'm wishing any trouble on myself but I would feel confident that the repairs were being done correctly.

Here,here.
75 miles is not to far to go when you can take the guess work out of the equation as far as Jim's work ethic
