Checklist - 04/25/09 09:39 AM

Yesterday (Friday 24 April) had a guy call for us and stated he was taking on water in his 19 CC with his son on board and his bilge pump was not working. We notified the CG and they were also enroute. I arrived, gave them a pump and started de-watering. De-watered the boat and found out that it was mostly rain water (not pumped out because bilge pump did not work) and spray from the rough conditions that they had so much water on board. The reason for my post - Please check all the necessary items EVERY time before you leave. Bilge pumps, life jackets, radio, gps, etc. By taking just a couple minutes each time BEFORE you go out can literally save your life. Water temp was 58 degrees and with a 2 foot chop it would have been difficult to find anyone if they had sunk. Please be safe.
