Re: Tuna at the Canyon - 09/29/08 01:09 PM

Unless there are some pretty stellar, reliable reports from the deep we are going no further than the Glroy Hole. Most likely sit on the ledge and chunk at first light and if nothing get on the troll and then maybe chunk again in the afternoon. Water temps look good for BFT but a little on the cold side for others, but running out of Wildwood I would imagine you would run south to the warmer water.

For the Hudson...

Saturday 10/4
Morning
Light winds with a slight chop. Small short period wind waves.
Winds: WNW 8 to 10 knots
Seas: SSE 2 feet at 8 sec.
Afternoon
Light winds with a slight chop. Small short period wind waves.
Winds: W 8 to 11 knots
Seas: SSE 2 feet at 8 sec.

I have been waiting for a weather window and no scheduling conflicts to occur (rarely happens this time of year for me). Hoping to get out this coming weekend with a little luck. Not sure if we will target bluefin inshore or yellowfin, albacore? and swordfish offshore in the canyons.

Hope the weather holds out for all of us.

Scott it's not getting cold yet...go even if you have to call in sick. Oh wait that might not fly to well with the boss! waver Depending on how quickly the next gorup of storms comes accross the pond I think the following weekend is going to be interesting to say the least. Looks like it might be the first major storm for us in a long time. There is a grouping of four good sized cells all pretty close to each other.

JJ I did a quick search and did not see the approaching storm cells you are referring to. I looked at the National Hurricane Center and nothing popped up to our east. From what you saw, is NOAA's roughly 2-4 foot seas they predicted with sunny skies out of the question?

The storm cells are East of the Cape Verde Islands. The bigger ones usually come all the way across the Atlantic from there. This is a cool shot of the Atlantic.

Looks like they are breaking up now though...which is good news at least. But the one getting ready to leave land and head across is one of the largest I have seen so far this season.

The forecast for the Glory Hole area has been flip flopping from flat to choppy seas all day...but here is the forecast. We were possibly going to fish both days if the weather and fish cooperate...will just have to wait and see. Should get some reports tomorrow. Should be a few boats coming in tonight, hopefully with good reports.

Saturday 10/4
Morning
Breezy whitecaping conditions with moderate choppy seas. Small short period wind waves.
Winds: NW 12 to 16 knots
Seas: S 3 feet at 7 sec.
Afternoon
Light winds with a slight chop. Small short period wind waves.
Winds: WNW 10 to 13 knots
Seas: SSE 2 feet at 7 sec.

Sunday 10/5
Morning
Light and variable winds with smooth seas. Small short period wind waves.
Winds: NNW 5 to 7 knots
Seas: SSE 1 feet at 6 sec.
Afternoon
Light and variable winds with smooth seas. Small short period wind waves.
Winds: NE 2 to 3 knots
Seas: ESE 1 feet at 10 sec.

"J's"(thats Joey, Joe, and Jersey Joe and Jeff),
As of this moment the weather sounds perfect. I have a commitment for Saturday morning. We may fish Saturday afternoon inshore or if we get positive reports from boats that fish the canyons, we may do an overnight trip Saturday night.
