Just a reminder that the tournament is getting very close. It starts this Friday and runs through the July 26th. You can register online or at participating locations. The fishing has been a little slow so hopefully this will give you something to shoot for. Lots of garbage out there and a lot of folks looking to cash in. http://www.garbagefish.com/tourny1.htm

I'll be updating the leader board on the website throughout the tournament so keep and eye on that. If you like me, have never one anything but a door prize at a tournament, you've got a serious shot to win here. 9 cash prizes - plus each winner gets a shirt and a flag. Picture how proud you'll feel when you show your kid a picture of you weighing in a skate.

Thanks to all those bhweb'ers who've already registered. Looking forward to seeing your results.

No doubt. You watch - you'll pull up a bunch of door mats and you won't be able to buy a trash fish.

For those of you guys like Jersey Joe who fish up North I just added a weigh station in Point Pleasant. It's a shop on the water right by the inlet and has boat and car access. I have it listed at http://www.garbagefish.com/weighstations.htm

Tourny starts tomorrow.

Day 1 of the tourny is over and I'll be collecting weigh ins for the leader board. Keep an eye on the board for to see who and what is leading: http://www.garbagefish.com/leaderboard.htm

Day 5 of the garbage fish tourny with 5 days left. The leader board is filled up but I think the searobin and skate leaders are a little light. Still wide open. Get out there and catch'em up.

We tried yesterday...only problem was we only caught two real small birds and three small skates all less than 2 pounds. The big sea bass and fluke were a PIA...kept stealing our baits! waver

I had that problem on Saturday. Not one garbage fish in the ocean. Came into the bay, and got the bird on our one and only drift.

Keep it up Joe. I think those guys at Fisherman's Supply in Point think I'm out of my mind. On the flip side, was down surf fishing Long Beach Island last night and the weigh ins at the shops have the folks perked up a bit.

Talked to one guy who caught a couple skate in the 4-5 pound range and threw them back because he didn't think they'd measure up. He's kicking himself now.

(Hey Sean, don't disappoint me. I think you are destined to bring in a doormat skate.)

We talked a little about the tournament at one of my fishing club meetings and a few guys seemed interested.

Joe - it goes a bit past guys to some degree. I don't want to say "over their heads" because that's the wrong choice of words. I'm thinking more like - some guys don't get what we are trying to do. Some guys think, "heh?" Some guys can't get down or get out fishing right now. Some guys think we have mental issues. Some guys can't budget money for a tourny this year given the economy, and some guys still think it's a bit out there. Nothing wrong with any of that. I appreciate a hard core fisherman like yourself supporting the cause especially since so many people including myself appreciate the knowledge you share with everyone here.

And, the guys that have participated so far all seem like really fun people and I fish for fun. I catch fish, I don't catch fish, I get out on the water, I enjoy every day, it's all good. I've met some great people through this thing - and some people that really want to get out there and have a lot of fun. People that I want to fish with in the future and will. Speaking of, if you ever need a crew member, let me know.

All in all - I just want to raise as much money as I can for reclam the bay and enjoy seeing people have fun with this tourny, especially the kids. Thanks guys for all your support.

Brian, Why was I removed from the weigh stations? I have had the new scale since Monday morning.

Also I didn't ever because I didn't think I would have time to fish. Took the truck to IBSP with the wife and baby and threw a pole in and caught a big searobin lol. Had to be close to 3 pounds....

Sorry Dan- I took you down when your scale was out and intended to put you back up when the new one hit the store. I spaced it. It's been a busy week. You are back up. HOpefully you see some fish this weekend. I have a feeling it's going to be tough fishing this weekend though. Hope I'm wrong.

3 pounds? You would have been first place by a mile with that thing.

No problem. He must have been on there a while cause he didn't even fight. I thought I snagged something. Oh well.
