My wife caught this in the Sandy Hook area today. It was a slimy xxx and fought like a big blue. Any ideas on what it is.......

Looks like a star gasser. They say if you touch it between the eyes you get a shock. So I never tried lol

Thanks guys. Never saw one before and didn’t want to take any chances so used two rags to grab him and take him off the hook. Rags got real slimy..... Thanks again and have a happy and safe 4th.

Apparently, they’re good eating? That’s what I’ve heard?

Never had the guts to try one myself...I’ve also never been shocked by one, but I wouldn’t take that chance either!

The first time I caught one, I was fluking near the inlet. I thought I hooked a doormat!

i have got several off of the beach fluke fishing and after they get hooked they just bury themselves in the sand! you walk out if you can and pull the line and bingo, you saved your rig!! when you bring one up on the beach let it sit in the wet sand and see how fast they bury themselves it is amazing! stepping on one when fishing in the surf barefoot was not my idea of fun!!
