It is an excellent product to use when transporting herring in tank and I highly recommend it. Not only does SHAD-KEEPER™ totally condition the water, but it also removes harmful ammonia from the water. Ammonia and surface foam are two of the key reasons herring are so hard to keep alive. Along with removing ammonia and surface foam, SHAD-KEEPER™ adds all necessary electrolytes herring need. SHAD-KEEPER™ also removes harmful chlorine from city water and melting ice, and any heavy metals which may be found in the water. The oxygen content of the water is enhanced and scales are hardened.

In addition, I also add a product called TRANQUIL™. It is a fish tranquilizer from the same manufacturer, Sure Life. By calmer your baits during transport you reduce injury and loss. With TRANQUIL™ your baits will use less oxygen while producing less waste (ammonia). Bottom line is you can introduce all the oxygen you want to a closed system tank but if you do not manage the waste you run the risk of losing some if not all your baits the longer they stay in the tank.

Man did I sound like an advertisement or what wink Maybe I need to see if Sure Life has a guide program.

Good to know. I still have close to two bottles but with the way Marty has been between the pipes I may start drinking that instead crazy

Hmmmm, over two weeks since the last run, we are past the next moon since the last run, high water due to rain and a warming trend coming. I say they will be back in large numbers in 2 – 4 days.

Not in the big D. It is still high and ovaltine colored. Some of the buoys were actually underwater today and yesterday.

But the high water is supposed to be good for the spawn, that will help the bass, herring and shad.

Big D run of herring is in a class by itself. I was was talking more about the other runs we get. The eastern part of the State did not get as much rain as the western part and the local streams have come down and are a day or two away from being at average discharge rates.
