I just finally filled out my paperwork and wrote my check. Any body else in? Looks like the timing is perfect for the fall run this year. Appears that the bite is just starting to turn on in our area.

Is it too early to start the 'smack talking?'

From last I heard on the count and from those who have replied to other threads saying they sent payments in and those I have spoken to directly it should be around 16. I will try and check in tomorrow and get a more accurate count at the end of the day after Monday's mail has been delivered.

I procastinated and will probably end up paying in person at the captains meeting. I was on the fence when I was told by the admiral that we have a committment for Saturday evening. Decided to do both in a marathon day.

The weather gods will come out and make it a great day. The last Barnegat Fishin' Hole related tournament I fished in I think you and another 17' Whaler owner (Graham/Speedbump) braved it out and held your own. After all, the Whalers are unsinkable and indestructable right? I seem to recall some very heavy foul weather gear that day. Despite the fact it was a rather cold fall morning, the true fisherman showed up while the wannabees stayed in their nice warm beds.

Hope you can tell I am joking, just had to start the trash talking. Others welcome to join in...

Joe I have been keeping an eye on it for a few days from other sites that offer long range forecasts and it has bounced back and forth from 4-6' to 2' or less the past few days. I think it is a little too early to make a decision as it is going to depend on when the front moves through and how long the South winds whip things up before the NW and W flatten it out again.

As Scott mentioned we had even worse forecasts for the entire week before the Barnegat Fishin' Hole fall tourney last year and it went from a nasty 7-9' sea 24 hours before to a ground swell the night of the captain's meeting to flat calm the day of the tournament. They guys who ran in the dark early that made long runs did take a beating that night but the guys who fished from first light on were blessed with fair winds and calm seas, tons of bluefish and albacore...except for us...we managed to find a hoard of sea bass in 15-25' of water off Lavalette on jigs under bird play.

Sorry for the digression...I am going to call Joe from SHBC tonight but I don't think any decision will be made until Thursday possibly Friday. We will keep everyone posted, we want a fun safe tournament where all can participate and have a great time.

Joe,

I know you and Joe will make the right decision. I've been really looking forward to fishing this weekend since I haven't been able to get out, whether it's related to conditions or commitments. Unfortanetly, I will have to fish the bay if the NOAA forecast holds. I think our first tourney the winners came from the bay, so maybe this will be good thing.
I hope the weather gods cooperate.

Guys I am not involved in the planning of this tourny but you guys were all over me last year about the weather. Go to the Capt meeting and I am sure Joe from Sun Harbor will have the latest forcast and I am sure he will make a safe choice. It makes no sense to keep posting the latest weather guess or to keep asking about the tourny. I am sure they are looking at the same forcast that you are. How many times have you seen a crappy forcast only to have it change 12 hrs later? Give these guys a break.

Here is Joe's post that you guys missed:

Due to the deteriorating weather forecast and potential hazardous marine weather this weekend, a final call of "NO" or "GO" regarding the Sun Harbor Bay Club First Annual Striper Tournament will be posted no later than Thursday evening, (11/13/2008). At the time of the final call, details will be posted regarding refunds if the tournament is in fact cancelled.

I would appreciate any comments in consideration for moving the tournament to Sunday, but that too is only a marginal chance, again, due to the forecast.

It is only fair that all participants have an equal chance, due to the fact that some participants that are signed up are fishing in smaller vessels. Again, this tournament was designed to be fun and enjoyable. It would be very unfortunate to cancel the tournament, but nonetheless a wise decision if conditions develop as forecasted.

Keep your fingers crossed and let's hope for the best!
