Description
To say that yesterday’s trip was awesome is an understatement. Yesterday’s trip was EPIC. Left the dock at about 230pm and had a beautiful 31 knot cruise out. Lines in at the spot we named “Carnage Hill” at 330pm. Saw some funny looking water and thought that it was bait. Wrong. They were tuna. Right off the bat we get a triple hook up of fish from 33” to 35”. Kept the bigger one for the table and released the rest. Lines back out and we headed back over to the school.

Now we have 3 guys on board, myself, my dad, and my friend Shawn who has never caught a tuna or been offshore until last weeks Ridge trip. So we swing back around and find the school. Hooked up again!! That was how the whole day went. Boat fish, lines back out, find the school, and hook up. I even got one to bite a popper!!!

While searching around for the school, I was on the bow and dad in the pit with one line out. Sure enough, hooks up. Hooked up on the jig twice as well but with only our light mahi setups, it’s a good thing they came off. Every Time we would find the school you could see the tuna swimming below the boat and flashing just like a bunker school!!! Absolutely Incredible!!

The tuna would hit anything. Sterling bars seemed to be the favorite though. Only had one fish on a ballyhoo and it was 28”, the smallest of the day. It did seem that the Sterling pink 18” machine bar was the first to get hit every time. We had so many fish and bites that we didn’t even bother to put the lines in the flat line clips because we knew they would just get nailed again!

With a nice fish in the box and a crew of tired and hungry guys we decided to start heading in at 5pm. Overall we went 15 for 17 on bluefin up to 35”. Tagged 10 of them. Nice ride in except for the last 10 miles or so with 2-3’ chop which made it a little wet and bumpy.

Overall an unforgettable day for my dad and I and one heck of a first tuna trip for my friend Shawn that I’m sure he will never forget.

Too bad for your friend. Now he's probably hooked and going to be trying to live up to that day for a long time. Awesome that you were able to stay on top of the school.

Wait have to repost........Crazy Video! Love to be able to see the explosions in the spread. Also like your technique of turning boat hard right and left to get additional hook ups after the first goes down. That is right out of Tred Barta's play book.

Thank you guys! Cooter, whenever we troll, I like to do a zig-zag pattern to cover more ground while trolling.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. My friend is asking when we're going again!

Great video. The on fish you held for a photo made it look like you were holding a jack hammer.
