Description
Now that fluke and sea bass fishing is closed, we tried for some cod. Very poor fishing as we traveled many miles, hit 5 wrecks in 105 to 165 feet of water, and only landed 2 keeper cod fish.

Only good news was the incredible amount of bait that showed at about 16 miles to the east of BI and continued on out to 40 miles. At 22 miles off, we saw bait on the surface that stretched for about a 1/2 mile, with pilot whales and some breaking and free jumping fish. Might be an option for anyone planning a shark or trolling trip.

Thanks
JT

The amount of life in that area was impressive. Still a fun trip!

I came a across a large area of bait up top just a couple of miles inshore of the ridge yesterday afternoon so we stopped and started casting. Turned out to be bunker as we snagged a few but nothing else around. Released them with the request for them to let their friends know to start heading west! Ridge was baron, in 5 plus hours just had two frigate mackerel, maybe the bonita heading offshore with all that bait out there plus the water has cooled some since a few weeks back…?

Went out later on Sunday and passed the bait as well, it started really close to the inlet with a large school of peanuts on top with something racing through them, coudn't connect on anything though....made it to the Resor for an quick troll/shark trip, some bait there not as much as inshore, slow day sharking with one that didn't come tight but then managed a 55" mako using bunker chum and albacore bait.....water was 69 degrees so pretty warm still. The two sharks were late in the day, after noon.....
