Description
Got an Invite to fish with my friend Joe on his 33 Blackfin. Very nice boat, awesome crew of Joe, Sam, Angelo, and Dave, and one of the nicest weather days that I can remember in December made for a great trip.

I am thinking of purchasing this boat for next year's charter season, and wanted to fish it see how easy it would be to double anchor. It was safe to anchor, has a huge cockpit, heat and AC in the salon, and very easy to maneuver.

We had to work a little harder for a boat limit to 8 pounds with tough anchoring conditions. The wind picked up in the afternoon, and we were able to sit on a good ledge and left the fish biting. We fished on two wrecks in 85 feet of water. All fish were caught on green crabs.

I was just googling all kinds of info on the 33 Blackfin. Pretty darn sweet! Such a great layout.

Here's great shots and a nice write-up:

Good luck with the purchase. I'm very jealous!

I fished with a buddy on the dock a few times on his 33, great little boats. Lots of room for a 33. Didn't think it was possible but he has Volvos in his and his boat is actually much louder than my Detroit boat. Probably the only downside to that boat other than working on the engines. They are 470hp and way too much for that boat and are shoehorned into those engine boxes.

Thanks for the input guys. The boat I am looking at is the bridge version. 3208 Cats with low hours and the boat is immaculate. All input good and bad is appreciated.

I'm sure you would but always do an engine survey with oil analysis. It's definitely worth the few extra bucks to make sure there isn't something lurking that you can't see.

Which horsepower? 375's? Nice easy engines to work on, reasonable for parts, only drawback is when you need to rebuild them, they aren't sleeved so you have to get a short or long block depending on what you are doing with the uppers.

They are the 375s Joe. Engines have been surveyed with oil analysis and all was good.

I Just have to sell my boat after I install a new fuel tank. I repowered last year with 275 Mercury Verados and the entire boat was rewired at the same time. Electronics are updated and any dings in the fiberglass are going to be repaired when the new fuel tank is glassed over. Bilge pumps, remote spot light, Rigid LED spreader lights, Norcold fridge, fish box macerators, batteries, bench seat vynil, wipers, trim tabs and switches, fuel fill, vent, and pick up lines, stereo, speakers, and bus fuse panels were all replaced or installed this year.

After doing all that work, I guess that tells you how much I like the 33 blackfin. Someone is going to get a turnkey boat.

JT

You and your Dad always have an open invitation Joe.....I plan on making canyon runs again with the blackfin. I used to do 15+ canyon trips per year, hoping to get back to at least half that.

Nice catch JT and good luck both in selling your current boat and in getting the new one. Nice lines and layout on the Blackfin, should work out very well. Ed
