Nice catch, great pic.

Is that a boga? If yes how reliable is it in locking a hold onto the fish?
I tried an inexpensive knock off from ebay, didnt hold well.

timing - Yes, it's a Boga. It is very secure when holding a fish. I've had the knockoffs before. You get what you pay for in this case. The Boga is expensive but it's high quality.

Appreciate the reply and Boga info.
Most people that fish from my boat, including less frequent casual guests, can usually hold a striper by hand ok.
Fluke, blues, etc some times an issue, so thinking a boga could be great for grip and pic. Any advise on which model for this application - 30lb easier way to go?
any reason not to get the 60lb? do they both hold any given weight fish equally well and it's just a matter of the scale range?

Bogas are great but if you don't want to break the bank, get a Fish Grip. We stock them and guys love them.

I agree with Dan, the Fish Grip is a great alternative. I do have a Boga, grips the fish well. I mainly carry it on the beach while surf fishing. The 60lb is a little big for me to carry around so I have the 30. If it bottoms out on a fish, that's a good thing!

The only other alternative that I like is the Berkeley gripper. No scale but it's great. I've never had one let go on me. The Econo lippers aren't bad, but they don't grip as well. My dad found that out when her was pulling a bluefish on board and it let go and he got a 1/0 treble in his hand.
